Books I'd recommend….part 1

So I thought I would do a two part post on recommendations/mini reviews of books I've been reading recently for business and blogging. Before I begin I would like to add that I am by no means an expert in either arena!

First up is The Right Brain Business Plan by Jennifer Lee. I came across this one day when I was just trawling the internet looking for inspiration. For a while I have wanted to get a grasp of doing a business plan and really get  into the nitty gritty of what the hell it is I am trying to achieve. Now, I have some understanding of how to go about a conventional business plan but the thought of sitting down to write a bland looking document just didn't float my boat y'know? Also I find a lot of the available resources and help is not so useful for the creative industries. So I thought I'd give this book a chance, bit the bullet and bought it...

(My well thumbed copy!)

I haven't been disappointed in all honesty. It offers a really good strategy for breaking down the different aspects of a business plan and taking things a step at a time. I would say it is geared towards producing something that is more for yourself than something you would present to Mr Bank Manager however, it does offer tips and resources for those of you who need to convert your info into something more 'conventional' shall we say. For me it was fine I was just doing it for myself. You can pick and choose whether to use the free downloadable 'play sheets' or create your own resource for certain chapters. I found the quirky illustrated play sheets useful so used those. They are basically more visually interesting mind maps, tables and charts that help with research and planning.

All in all I would definitely recommend this book if you are a creative looking to make planning and research a little more interesting. I can honestly say I enjoyed doing my business plan and I know that is not something you hear often!! I would add that it does have an American slant to it so some bits of info don't apply really if your in the UK but this didn't affect the overall experience. I'll add a link to the website for any of you who are interested.

(some of my big plan)

Now all the planning is done the real test is putting it into action….wish me luck!!

Thanks for reading,

Ciao, Ciao
